Hobart nbn™ network construction in full swing

New Town, Mount Stuart and Lenah Valley latest to switch on

nbn has updated its construction rollout maps for Hobart showing almost the entire city is now either in preparation, under construction or already switched on to the nbn™ network.

In the local government areas of Hobart, Clarence and Glenorchy the majority of areas are finished construction or under construction or in planning.

The latest areas to switch on are New Town, Mount Stuart and Lenah Valley, meaning more than 5,500 homes and businesses in those suburbs can begin placing orders to move their telephone and broadband services to the nbn™.

The update of the online nbn maps follows the release recently of the latest construction plan, which details work scheduled to be completed or underway by the end of 2016.

The rollout in these areas is an important step toward the goal of connecting eight million premises across Australia to the nbn™ network by 2020.

nbn Corporate Affairs Manager Tasmania, Russell Kelly, said:

“Of the 29 Fibre Servicing Area Modules (FSAMs) in Hobart, Clarence and Glenorchy, 14 are ready for service – or around 50%.

“Including areas under construction, 23 FSAMs or around 80% of Hobart is now either under construction or completed.

“All of Hobart will be under construction or finished by the end of 2016.

“Over 114,000 Tasmanian premises can currently connect to services over the nbn™ network if they wish, with thousands more homes and businesses being added every month.

“This is ushering in a new world of opportunity for business, education and entertainment for Tasmanians.”
