The nbn^® network is not currently available in your building

We have made several attempts to initiate the process of establishing an nbn network connection to your building, however we have been unsuccessful in our engagement with the building’s authorised representative. Consequently, nbn does not currently plan to install a network connection to your building, unless we receive a request from the Owners’ Corporation.

If you currently use existing fixed line phone or internet services there are a number of implications to be aware of:

Critical copper services such as emergency lift phones and monitored fire alarm systems may be at risk of disconnection.*
Occupiers may not be able to continue to access other critical services connected to the existing Fixed Line networks such as medical alarms and emergency call systems, monitored security alarms and fax machines.^{^}
Existing fixed line services will be disconnected at a future date and occupiers will not be able to make phone calls or access the internet over the Fixed Line network unless the nbn supplied equipment is installed at the property. The disconnection of existing Fixed Line services will not affect occupier's ability to access phone and internet services over mobile networks.
Future requests for an nbn network connection will result in costs payable by the Owners Corporation and/or owners/occupiers.

However, if your phone and internet services are already provided via another fibre network, they will continue to operate as normal unless your provider advises otherwise.

nbn strongly recommends that you contact your current provider of phone and internet services, or visit www.nbn.com.au/switchoff for more information about whether your services will be impacted by the rollout of the nbn network.^#

Although most existing services will be replaced by the nbn network, there are some services that should not be impacted. These include those services provided over non-nbn fibre networks, as well as some services in some apartment complexes, and some business and Special Services. If you are currently receiving broadband services using one of these networks, your broadband services will not be disconnected and you do not need to move to the nbn network if you do not want to. nbn strongly recommends you contact your current phone and internet provider for more information.

Premises connected to the nbn^® network via nbn Fixed Wireless won't be disconnected from their existing phone and internet services by nbn.

If you want to keep your existing copper phone line active when you order a service over nbn Fixed Wireless, you should speak to your phone and internet provider at the time you place your order.

Planned technology

nbn Satellite*

Good news! It looks like your location may be eligible for the business nbn^® Satellite Service⁺. The business nbn Satellite Service is designed to support business-grade internet, data and voice services^§ to Australian businesses in remote and rural areas^{^}.

Premises connected to the nbn^® network via nbn Satellite won't be disconnected from their existing phone and internet services by nbn.

Premises identified by nbn as medium/large business premises are not to be serviced by nbn™ Sky Muster™ or nbn™ Sky Muster^™ Plus. The nbn™ Satellite product available to medium/large business premises is business nbn™ Satellite Service. If you’re interested in nbn™ Sky Muster™ or nbn™ Sky Muster™ Plus services or believe your premises has been incorrectly categorised please contact your phone and internet provider.

The business nbn Satellite Service provides voice support for VoIP carriage and is not a voice provider.

An end customer’s experience, including the speeds actually achieved over the nbn™ network, depends on the nbn™ access technology and configuration over which services are delivered to your premises, whether you are using the internet during the busy period, and some factors outside nbn’s control (like your equipment quality, software, broadband plan, signal reception and how your service provider designs its network).

Fast broadband to boost growth in Queanbeyan

2,800 premises across the CBD now able to connect

Australian software and project management company, Codarra Advanced Systems, is amongst the first in Queanbeyan to experience the benefits of fast broadband, following the official switch on of the national broadband network in parts of the CBD.

From today, more than 2,800 homes and businesses in Queanbeyan can now connect to the National Broadband Network. Physical construction also underway to expand the network to an additional 7,800 premises in parts of Queanbeyan East, The Ridgeway, Crestwood and further parts of the CBD.

Codarra Advanced Systems’ Managing Director and Telstra customer, Warren Williams said:

“As an information and communications technology business, the introduction of the National Broadband Network will instantly bring multiple efficiency and productivity benefits to our operations. It will enable us to better communicate with our clients and provide more effective support for our software exports.

“Access to fast and reliable broadband will also enable our staff to work remotely. Be it on the road, from home or from our client’s office, our staff will now have the ability to be more flexible and productive in how they work.”

Queanbeyan City Council Mayor, Councillor Tim Overall said:

“By connecting to the network, Queanbeyan residents and businesses will be able to realise the full potential of the internet. For Council the national broadband network is a vital piece of infrastructure that helps us execute our long term Residential and Economic Strategy – something that’s key to the future growth and prosperity of Queanbeyan.”

NBN Co spokesperson, Darren Rudd said:

“Today marks a significant milestone in the rollout of the National Broadband Network in Queanbeyan. Moving forward it will help residents access e-health, distance education and entertainment on demand, whilst businesses have the ability to increase productivity, reduce costs and access new markets.

“It’s also important for residents of Queanbeyan to know the move to the National Broadband Network is not automatic. So I encourage everyone in the coverage area to contact their preferred phone or internet service provider to get connected.”

The rollout of the national broadband network continues to gain momentum across the ACT with more than 17,800 homes and businesses already connected. Residents of Queanbeyan can check if their home or business is in the NBN coverage area at nbnco.com.au/maps.

Notes to editors

On average it takes around 12 months from the start of construction until residents and business owners can access National Broadband Network services via phone and internet providers.
In fixed line areas, homes and businesses will need to take the following steps to connect to the National Broadband Network:

1. Contact your preferred internet service provider or phone company:

a. If you have a medical alarm or alert (or a family member, carer or friend) you are encouraged to register your details with NBN Co’s Medical Alarm Register by calling 1800 227 300 or complete the online form at nbnco.com.au/medicalregister.

b. If you have an EFTPOS terminal, fax or alarm system, call the provider of that service (for example your bank) to ask what internet or landline phone services over the National Broadband Network will support the device.

c. If your building has an emergency lift phone and/or a fire indicator panel you are encouraged to register your details with NBN Co so these services can be identified by calling 1800 687 626.

d. Contact your preferred phone company or internet service provider and discuss your requirements.

2. Choose a plan that suits your needs.

3. Order your service over the National Broadband Network as soon as possible.
